DemoCamp November 2010
Every couple of months we host "DemoCamp" because it's an awesome opportunity to hear what our new media companies are doing that's innovative and inspiring.
Our next event is on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 7 pm at Aqua Books on the second floor and features two REALLY interesting projects that you will want to get your hands on.
THEM
Glacier Games has become an overnight sensation with the upcoming release of THEM - a "film noir" style iPhone Game that was most recently picked up via Chillingo and Electronic Arts.
Philippe of Glacier Games will be the first one to admit he's a little blown away by the explosion of interest surrounding his first video game and the kind of attention it's been getting ever since Electronic Arts signed on.
On Wednesday Philippe with be providing a demo of his upcoming game, discussing his development process, and sharing some of his experiences working with a Triple-A game publisher and what they can add to your game. He'll also be discussing the social techniques he used to get noticed by Chillingo and what you can do to market your game or application while it's still in development.
ALL HAIL THE WINNITRON
Our next presenter is none other than Winnipeg's own Alec Holowka! Chances are you've met or heard of some of Alec's amazing adventures over the past couple of years including winning "Best Independent Game of the Year" at the 2007 Worldwide Game Developers' Conference in San Francisco.
Since returning to Winnipeg, Alec has launched several community initiatives for game development including the extremely popular TIGJam (the independent game jam) where developers get together for a weekend, collaborate, and crank out amazing games for the web, PC/Mac, consoles, and mobile devices.
On Wednesday Alec will be sharing an initiative he has worked on with other local contributors called the "WINNITRON 1000," a full-sized, retro-style arcade cabinet that is filled with independent games from Manitoba developers.
The WINNITRON has been showing around town for the past month or so with the hope that it will find a permanent home at Red River College to help inspire the next wave of upcoming game developers.
The only way to learn the true story of the Winnitron and experience the majesty in person, is to attend the NMM Demo Camp November 17, 7:00PM at Aqua Books. You'll laugh. You'll cry. It will become a part of you.
You don't have to be a game developer to enjoy the two Demos we're featuring on Wednesday. Alec's and Philippe's projects will speak to a broad audience and will inspire those that really embrace new business and community models.
There is no charge to attend but we want to make sure we have enough seats set up in advance. You are welcome to join us at 5pm at Eat Bistro on the main floor of Aqua Books or at 7 pm sharp on the Second Floor for the main events.
