Protecting your Home-LAN Security

Slides from tonight's presentation can be downloaded here!

According to a March 19, W5 Investigation, our Canadian Government has allocated 80 million dollars over 5-years to deal with cyber-security in our country, an amount that some security experts view as inadequate.

Even if you are running off-the-shelf security software, you may be surprised at how simple it is for malicious individuals to bypass certain types of 'protection' and exploit your personal or business info. If you use your iPhone and iPod touch online (and who doesn't these days?) you may be scattering personal information all over the internet without even realizing it.

On Tuesday, April 19, 2011, we present "Protecting your Home-LAN Security!" The meeting begins at 7pm sharp at 1000 Waverley Street . There is no charge to attend but you must register in advance so we know how many security cameras to insta... err, refreshments to bring.

On Tuesday we'll also unveil some tips you can use to keep your business network, media, and personal data safe, both online and offline, along with some simple, free tools you can use to protect yourself from malicious individuals. If you thought your network and passwords were un-hackable, think again!

Leading our event is Sean Cody, a long-time computer security expert who has worked as an Infrastructure Specialist for several multi-national enterprises. He deals with cyber-security on a daily basis and will detail strategies that will keep your data safe and secure.

This meeting will act as an introduction to computer security principles, what it really means to have a secure network, as well as best practices and software you can apply to security threats.

After Tuesday's presentation, you may just think twice about connecting to our free office WiFi ever again...

We look forward to seeing you out!
