Corona SDK 1-Day Hands On Workshop
The Corona SDK is an excellent choice for developers interested in creating high-performance games for iOS and Android devices. Come learn about the features of Corona, its strengths and weaknesses, and how to get started with Corona. This session will include an overview of the Lua programming language, IDE options and third-party tools, and some of the more interesting APIs/capabilities of Corona. 9:30am - 5:00pm
This workshop will get you started creating games for iOS and Android devices. We will create a complete game, from setting up the project to deploying to an actual device. In the process, you'll be introduced to the Lua programming language and the Corona SDK
What you will learn
- You will build a complete, cross-platform Missile Command game that can be played on Android or iOS devices.
- Configuring a project for cross-platform compatibility using a single code base
- Understand the basics of the Lua programming language
- How to add animation to the game using sprite sheets, handle collision detection using the built-in physics engine, and other
- Add social/sharing capabilities, ads, and analytics using Corona APIs
Prerequisites
Attendees do not need to be experienced programmers, but THIS IS NOT AN INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMMING WORKSHOP. Some programming knowledge will be assumed (e.g. what are functions, variables, loops, event listeners, etc.)
New Media Manitoba has computers that will be set up with the required software, but if you prefer to use your own laptop (Mac or Windows OS), see this PDF for instructions on how to set up the required software in advance of the workshop.
