Scrum 101 for Newbies
Wow! Hot on the heels of a our iPhone SDK demo we are going to show you one of the most efficient ways to get your development team up and running with Scrum Agile Project Management. You must register in advance to attend this event.
On Tuesday, November 18, 2008, Brock Gunter-Smith; co-founder of New Media Manitoba and Director of e-Business at CanadaDrugs.com, will show how he's taken his team of developers and applied ScrumWorks Pro; a simple toolkit to make project development accurate, meaningful and profitable (not to mention fun)! This introduction to Scrum will be ideal for Web Developers, Project Managers, New Media Business owners, and Software Developers looking to control an often chaotic development cycle.
Scrum is described as a team-based iterative process for developing any project or managing work that is constantly changing. Scrum can be applied during 15-min daily team meetings and is a way for everyone to feel good about their job, their contributions, and that they've done the best work they possibly could.
Some of the topics Brock is going to cover on Tuesday are:
1. How he's used "waterfall planning" (Big Up Front Design = Bad)
2. What lessons his team has learned that causes projects to fail or be unprofitable
3. What is SCRUM and how does it address these concerns?
4. An interactive SCRUM exercise
5. ScrumWorks Pro demonstration
6. CanadaDrugs.com success
7. Danube - SCRUM training and software
8. Immediate Action Plan - how to start using SCRUM tomorrow morning (using basics from handout)
If you have ever had to manage a project in your lifetime (or are planning to) you will not want to miss this event! The principles covered on Tuesday can be applied to nearly any team activity and can improve your development cycle significantly.
Feel like getting closer to your team? Use SCRUM!
Please note we will be meeting at the University of Manitoba's Engineering and Information technology Complex for this demonstration. Don't be shy about asking for directions once you're there and be sure to arrive no later than 6:30 pm so you can find your way. We will meet in room E2-105 of the EITC.
