MacWorld Manitoba 2007

On Tuesday, January 23, NMM presents, "MacWorld in Manitoba" at Psych Health on William. The presentation begins at 7 pm sharp.

Ian McCausland and I went back to San Francisco last week seeking the latest hardware & software gems at MacWorld Expo. As in other years, we interviewed vendors on the ground floor and videotaped our journey for our NMM training event on January 23/07. Book your calendar and join us for some of the highlights! MacWorld Expo impacts the tools that New Media developers use each year. MacWorld in Manitoba will be a great opportunity for you to see the technology that can keep you competitive in '07.

Some of the products we looked at and will be showcasing on Tuesday include:

The ModBook from Axiotron. I got the chance to interview Andreas Haas, President of Axiotron. Incidentally, he was in charge of the Newton Business Group when Apple turned off the lights on the Newton. He shared some great stories off camera with me about the Newton and Steve Jobs. The new ModBook is a reflection of Andreas' commitment to detail in a Tablet Mac. You have to check this one out.

Glance.net is a way to share what you see on your computer with someone else. It's a very useful way to deliver a sales presentation or display files to your client across a vast distance.

Blurb.com
Blurb.com creates beautiful, perfect-bound books of your content whether it be your photos, blog, portfolio, or novel. CafePress and Lulu better be on their guard because Blurb has entered the book market in a big way.

Gorilla from Jungle Software is a way to manage the budget, cast members, unions, and festival submission of your next indie film. I was very impressed with the knowledge these folks packed into their product.

Winnipegger Dan Messing was in MacWorld showing us how to develop awesome software for the Macintosh. The products he developed for Stunt Software had a steady stream of interested attendees on the Expo floor.

FluidMask
Fluid Mask from Vertus Tech. Fluid Mask is an extremely effective way of creating masks in Photoshop that will mask out even the hairiest of subjects.

Kinemac is a 3D Real Time Animation Software for Mac OS X. It allows you to quickly create your own professional 3D animations with the simplicity of a 2D presentation tool.

Qnext is a Canadian company that lets you instantly communicate and broadcast unlimited content with anyone on the popular instant messenger and email networks. You have to see this app up close to appreciate its simplicity and usefulness.

The above companies represent only a handful of the 22 companies we interviewed. Keep checking back at newmediamanitoba.com for updates on other companies we'll feature on Tuesday. Naturally, we're bringing several thousand dollars worth of giveaways that have been generously donated by the vendors we spoke with. This is a presentation you definitely don't want to miss!

We hope to see you out,
