There are a few things that all Manitobans love: the Winnipeg Jets, kielbasa, and helping one another out. The incredible collaborative industry we have here in Manitoba is second to none, and is a defining characteristic that other markets wish they had. Wouldn’t it be great if we could bottle something like that? Well that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

In 2013 we will create a co-work space that will act as a lightning rod for creativity and entrepreneurship in this province. This shared space will be a place where all people from the New Media sector can come together to share ideas, collaborate on projects, or even just pop in to see what kind of exciting work other members are doing.

By offering a location with flexible workspaces and the latest digital media technology like-minded people will have access to resources in a centralized location. Manitoba businesses and freelancers will utilize this space to create new products and business opportunities they may not otherwise have known were possible. The intention is to create a location that fosters “planned serendipity”. At the heart of this shared space is the idea of bringing people together to exchange ideas and create products that are greater than the sum of their parts.

Manitoba’s new media industry doesn’t lack talent. Or skill. Or determination.

Our industry possesses so much that can be capitalized on to continue to grow.  But there are a few obstacles that our companies face.  One of them is job-ready grads and the other is a lack of resources to provide customized on-the-job training for their employees in the soft skills that are so crucial to the success of their businesses.

The priority we want to implement is a subsidized mentorship program for students entering the workforce and for existing employees who have employers that would like up-skilled in a key area like in project management. The New Media Manitoba Mentorship Initiative will be something that companies can look to for assistance in identifying what their needs are, and assistance in creating a mentorship plan that meets their unique needs.

The mentorship program will include a variety of services available to companies, including:

  • support for consultants to work with companies in their business development,
  • wage subsidization for new full-time student hires,
  • support for the implementation of customized training solutions for existing full-time employees,
  • assistance in developing training strategies,
  • have a cool mentorship idea that you’d like to explore? Proposals for ‘special mentorship projects’ will also be considered.

We hope to have the pilot of this program running by late 2012.

Sales Portal

Manitoba’s New Media sector is poised to become a force to be reckoned with, both nationally and internationally. With that being said, an impediment to this growth of the new media industry here in Manitoba is the ability for companies to access new business opportunities and to dynamically increase their staff so as to allow them to bid on new, and larger business opportunities.

To help match local companies looking to expand, and freelancers to help meet those staffing needs, New Media Manitoba is looking to establish an online virtual sales market. This virtual sales market, allows both companies, and freelancers, to come together to post work opportunities as well as be able to bid on new contracts.

The virtual sales market will be made up of two complimentary services: A free to use service, for paid members, to post and bid on new contracts, and a matchmaking service where NMM can provide targeted recommendations, or bespoke shortlists, of suitable candidates. This exciting project will roll out over the next two years across several phases.

In early 2013 the staffing component of the virtual sales market will be released to our members while in 2014 the online hub will expand to encompass new business opportunities from foreign markets.
