New Media Manitoba’s first-ever Game Development Summer Camp is aimed at youth, ages 15-17 who are dreaming about a career in the video game industry. This week-long workshop is that important first step in discovering what this exciting industry could offer. Participants will get the chance to learn the basics of programming, develop animations and unravel some of the mysteries behind game design from an established indie developer.
When: July 30th to August 3rd | 9am - 3.30pm

*Requirements: Students must be between the ages of 15 and 18 years old and have a basic understanding of coding.
Selected students will be introduced to video game development concepts using industry standard software, such as Unity and the Adobe Creative Suite. Working on provided high-powered gaming laptops they will get a chance to learn game design in a collaborative environment as they work towards creating their finished prototype.
•Create and customize a simple game while learning about game design principles.
•Create animated art using Photoshop, import it into your game, then attach it to code.
•Add music and sound effects to bring your project to life.
•Pick up some prototyping tricks that can help you get up and moving quickly.

Dylan Fries is a freelance game developer, entrepreneur, computer programmer, and artist. He is the founder of Peg Jam and has run over a dozen game jams in Winnipeg in association with New Media Manitoba. He also runs the Winnipeg Game Collective with Daniel Voth and has spoken on dozens of topics related to game development and entrepreneurship. His interests include simulating ecosystems, artificial intelligence, spending time outdoors and digital painting.
