An avid gamer who made his own video games in his spare time\, Darryl suddenly discovered that he could get paid for making games and immediately made the switch to join the industry. \n\n\n\nDarryl is now Managing Director of Ubisoft Toronto\, a studio of amazingly talented AAA game development teams dedicated to creating immersive and engaging games for some of the industry’s hottest brands. Darryl was previously Managing Director of Ubisoft Singapore\, Philippines and Vietnam–where he worked with the Skull & Bones team to bring that game to release in February 2024–and the founder of Ubisoft Winnipeg in 2018\, Ubisoft’s first dedicated technology studio. \n\n\n\nBefore accepting his role as Managing Director\, Darryl was Producer of the blockbuster hit Far Cry 5. DESCRIPTION:In this four-part training series\, design strategist Sara Fortier will give participants an introduction to user research\, data analysis\, and the best tools and techniques to turn research findings into actionable and innovative insights for business. Each two-hour session will consist of a mini-lecture and interactive workshop\, where participants will dive into a specific element of human-centered design and research. \nThe four sessions are scheduled as follows: \nSession 1: User Research\nNovember 19th\, 12:00-2:00pm CST \nSession 2: Developing User Personas\nNovember 20th\, 12:00-2:00pm CST \nSession 3: Journey Mapping\nNovember 26th\, 12:00-2:00pm CST \nSession 4: Turning Insights into Opportunities\nNovember 27th\, 12:00pm-2:00pm CST \n  \nA webinar link will be sent one day before the event. \n  \nSession 1 will introduce participants to User Research\, including research objectives\, planning\, and recruitment\, and the best ethnographic research methods to use and when to use them\, including in-depth interviews\, contextual observations\, diary studies\, and surveys. \nSession 2 will teach participants how to develop a set of User Personas based on the data collected through user research. This session will explore what personas are and why they are useful\, and how to build\, visualize\, and effectively apply user personas in the workplace.  \nSession 3 will teach participants how to develop Journey Maps based on the data collected through user research. This session will explore what journey maps are and how to use them to identify gaps in customer/user experience. Participants will learn the critical components of a successful journey map\, and how to build one.  \nSession 4 will build on the previous three sessions by demonstrating to participants how user research and powerful design tools (like User Personas and Journey Maps) can be utilized to pinpoint insights and areas for opportunity/innovation\, which can then be transformed into actionable recommendations and roadmaps.  \n  \nLearning outcomes for this training series will include: \n\nAn understanding of the best user research methods for UX related projects.\nAn understanding of how to create and utilize User Personas to build empathy for users and ensure a better overall user/customer experience.\nAn understanding of how to create and utilize Journey Maps to identify gaps and areas for opportunity and improve customer/user experience.\nThe ability to identify pain points and areas for opportunity in your service/product delivery and/or user experience.\nThe ability to create actionable recommendations and roadmaps for the future based on research insights\n\n  \n\nPresenter Bio: Sara Fortier is a design strategist and the CEO and founder of Outwitly Inc. – a service design consultancy that aims to transform organizations and customer experiences through leading edge design and research methods. She is an expert in ethnographic research methods\, workshop facilitation\, design-thinking\, and human-centered approaches to innovation. Prior to founding Outwitly\, Sara gained invaluable experience working in Silicon Valley for Fortune 500 clients such as Apple\, AT&T\, and Microsoft. She is also the former User Experience Director for one of the top ten media companies in the United States where she led the consumer products design and research teams.\n\n  \nTransitioning from her experience in the high-tech world\, she now helps organizations in both the public and private sectors to improve their user and customer experiences by applying the same human-centered and innovative practices used in product and service development. Her areas of expertise include designing for digital services in high-tech\, government\, healthcare\, and education.\n\n  \nSara received a Master of Interdisciplinary Design and a Bachelor of Industrial Design from Carleton University. She continues to work closely with the University as a sessional lecturer on UX design and advisor to the School of Industrial Design on all matters of design strategy\, service design\, and user research.
