Across Instagram\, her blog\, and YouTube\, she covers wellness\, travel\, food\, and life with the kind of honesty her community has come to count on. \n\n\n\nShe’s also President of the Congress of Black Women of Manitoba\, a Certified Work-Life Strategist. She brings over two decades of human resources expertise to her consulting work through Natalie Bell Consulting. Her work has been recognized with the CPHR Manitoba Momentum Award\, ACMP’s Community Service Award\, one of the 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women for 2026\, and multiple RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award nominations in the Ones to Watch category. With nearly seven years in the marketing space\, Gem pivoted from corporate digital marketing into games to work with people that love what they do. Corvian’s philosophy is simple: a video game’s greatest marketing asset is its community. Rather than chasing clicks and impressions\, Corvian builds lasting\, self-sustaining communities around games by showing the human effort behind them before ever asking for a wishlist. It’s marketing built for an audience that is\, as Gem puts it\, borderline allergic to traditional marketing. Corvian currently works with studios ranging from solo devs to double-A teams\, including Richard Garfield’s Popularium Games\, and has partnered with the Canadian Game Awards\, the Toronto Game Expo\, and Interactive New Brunswick to bring accessible marketing resources to developers who otherwise wouldn’t have them. \n\n\n\n=== \n\n\n\nNew Media Manitoba is thankful to the Canada Media Fund and Ubisoft for their support of GameBiz Lab. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

NMM is excited to have Sasha Boersma lead a full-day workshop on accounting for indie game studio owners. \n\n\n\nMaking games is fun\, but running a studio is sometimes not. Accounting is often the task that we push off to deal with “later”. But the CRA is expecting things\, the bank is expecting things\, tax credit analysts are expecting things. So we must deal with it. Best way to deal with it is to understand it so you can work better with your bookkeeper\, accountant\, or take on some of the responsibilities yourself! \n\n\n\nIn this hands-on\, interactive session\, we will cover: \n\n\n\n\nSales taxes (GST/PST/HST/TVQ): obligations for sales tax filing\, interprovincial rates\, and the impact on budgeting and cash flow.\n\n\n\nPayroll contributions: payroll obligations\, organizing payroll data for budgets and tax credits understand payroll obligations\, and how to organize payroll data for tax credits and funding applications.\n\n\n\nAccounting 101: accrual cost tracking\, double-entry accounting\, financial statements\n\n\n\nMaking cost reports and cash forecasting useful.\n\n\n\n\nEvent Agenda:\n\n\n\nTues\, June 8\, 2026\, 9 AM – 5 PMNMM at 100-62 Albert St. \n\n\n\n9:00am – 12:00pm Morning portion of workshop \n\n\n\n12:00pm – 12:30pm Time for lunch (provided) \n\n\n\n12:30pm – 5:00pm Afternoon portion of workshop_ _______________________ \n\n\n\n***Please note this is at our Albert St location\, not at the StudioLab xR location. \n\n\n\nLunch will be provided._ _______________________ \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Sasha Boersma\n\n\n\nSasha Boersma is Co-Founder/Producer at Sticky Brain Studios where she leads business affairs\, including accounting\, and funding proposals.
