New Media Manitoba is proud to announce its latest workforce development initiative – StudioLab xR. Supported by the Province of Manitoba with an investment of almost $1.5 M over three years, this 5,500 square foot facility will be the latest addition to the Province’s technology and innovation landscape.
“Our government is proud to continue supporting the growth of the interactive digital media and film industries, which are among the fastest-growing sectors of the provincial economy,” said Economic Development, Investment and Trade Minister Cliff Cullen.
Advances in real-time technologies are making the impossible possible and opening up incredible new opportunities in both creative and technical fields. StudioLab xR’s mandate is to support workforce development and innovation in emerging areas of Extended Reality. This will be accomplished through industry partnerships, providing access to state-of-the-art technology and releasing a suite of educational programs.
StudioLab xR is designed from the ground up to develop the skills needed to join this innovative industry. This facility will blend the best of both worlds; with both online learning and practical hands-on training available. Covering everything from virtual production, performance capture, projection mapping and Unreal Engine, StudioLab xR will have the tools and expertise to develop next-level skills.
“Manitoba’s interactive digital media sector continues to push the boundaries of innovation and is growing exponentially. This project is a testament to our belief in the incredible things they will produce with cutting-edge tools and industry-leading training. The future opportunities created by this studio will result in hundreds of new content creation jobs, and we are thrilled to be training Manitobans for the techno-creative careers of the future.”
