Overview

The Interactive Digital Media sector is moving faster than ever, and it’s crucial for your Manitoba-based business to have the most impactful, best in-class training to remain competitive.

New Media Manitoba is uniquely positioned to provide and support quality custom training at reasonable rates, thanks to funding provided by the Manitoba Government, the Government of Canada and Prairies Economic Development Canada.

NMM provides custom training that meets your organization’s unique needs, whether through NMM’s Custom Training Program or our Training Catalogue. 

Custom Training Program

NMM’s Custom Training Program supports business leaders and their teams with custom training opportunities.

This program is uniquely designed for Manitoba-based companies seeking in-person (live), custom training that intends to increase skills towards observed improvements in performance, help to implement innovation, adopt emerging technologies and increase competitiveness and growth as a result of the training.

NMM’s Training Catalogue includes introductory courses related to Digital Storytelling with Twine; Intro to Games with Bitsy; Intro to 3D Asset Creation; Intro to Portfolios; Intro to User Experience Design; Intro to Unreal Engine; Intro to Worldbuilding in Unreal; Intro Virtual Production;  with more courses in development.

Custom Training Program

Three categories of program funding are currently available.
  1. Team Training 
    For workplace teams, including leaders and executive teams
  2. Leadership Training  
    For workplace leaders and executive management 
  3. Artificial Intelligence Training
    For workplace teams, including leaders and executive teams

Under these programs, companies are required to contribute at least 50% of the training costs.  
 

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis until March 1, 2027, or until funding in each category (Team and Leadership) has been fully committed.  All projects must be completed by March 31, 2027.

Custom Training Program Objectives 

  • To support growth in the Interactive Digital Media sector through workforce development training for IDM leaders and their teams.  
  • Increase business productivity, global competitiveness, and talent attraction within the Interactive Digital Media (IDM) sector through workforce development training for IDM leaders and their teams. 
  • To accelerate AI adoption and commercialization within IDM SME’s in Manitoba 

Custom Training Program Overview

  • Eligible Manitoba-based IDM companies may receive financial assistance for up to 50% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of $12,500 (depending on the program). 
  • Training projects with budgets over $25,000 require 3 service provider estimates.
  • NMM will collaborate with companies to identify and source a preferred training provider.
  • Training must be provided live, in-person or online. 
  • On-demand training is not eligible (for Team and Leadership Custom Training Programs).   

Please note:

  • There is a limited budget in each category
  • Training support is available on a first-come first-served basis. 
  • All training, followed by a required Custom Impact Report, must be completed by March 31, 2027

Eligible Training:

Eligible training can include topics such as (but not limited to):

  • Leadership, Strategy and Organizational Planning & Development 
  • Artificial Intelligence (Adoption, Implementation, Agentic)  
  • Business Development, Sales & Lead Generation 
  • Customer Relationship Management 
  • Marketing and Communications 
  • Team Building  
  • Other emerging/evolving technical skills (xR, programming, game engines, UX/UI Design, digital twin tech, etc.) 

Business Eligibility Check

  • You’re a for-profit business incorporated to conduct business in Canada  
  • You employ at least one full-time equivalent (FTE)  
  • You’ve been in operation for a minimum of two years (exceptions may be made contingent on funder requirements). 
  • You have staffed operating facilities in Manitoba   
  • The proposed training will be taken by Manitoba–based employees 
  • The proposed training will be delivered live, either in-person or online. (OnDemand training is not eligible under the Team and Leadership Custom Training Programs.)  
  • You engage in regular business activities that fall within the interactive digital media realm – specifically:  Video Games, Virtual, Augmented, Mixed and Extended Reality, Interactive Website and App development, Interactive Educational Content, and any computer-delivered electronic system that allows the user to control, combine, and manipulate different types of media, such as text, sound, video, computer graphics, and animation.  
  • You have the financial capacity to cover 50% or more of the training costs.
