Member Profile – Relish Branding

We strive to empower people and organizations to solve complex challenges and create positive change through strategic practices, design, marketing, technology and innovation. Simply put, we believe businesses doing good, is good for business.

We were founded as a one-person studio in 1998 on principles of creativity, innovation and impact. Two decades later, we have evolved into a firm of 18 brilliant thinkers, creatives, makers, developers, educators and entrepreneurs.

We work in a century old dry goods warehouse located in Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District. We find ourselves in good company with fine artists, photographers, musicians, writers and Canada’s largest publisher of educational books and Indigenous-authored literature.

CONNECT WITH RELISH

Interview with Suzanne Braun, Founder and CEO

Relish was founded as a one-person studio in 1998 in Winnipeg’s Exchange District. Over two decades we have evolved into a firm of 18 brilliant thinkers, creatives, makers, developers, educators and entrepreneurs.

Relish is an integrated agency; we provide our clients with strategic, creative and immersive brand experiences through virtually any platform.

We deliver:
Better Products: Brand development, interactive products and strategies, media campaigns and stakeholder communications.
Greater Impact: Clear, immediate and relevant positioning. Engaging and efficient campaigns.
Meaningful Communications: Engaging narratives, authentic client relationships and organizational alignment.

We also do research and development with a focus on commercializing our digital products.

Relish started as a single person operation and has since expanded to a team of 18. Our growth is attributed to building trusted, result-driven, long-term relationships with our clients. We have been able to consistently stay in front of trends, particularly in the digital space, continually expanding our knowledge-base and skill set.

We are thinkers first. Our collaborative spirit ensures our projects embrace the perspective and values of our clients’ business. Understanding what our clients do is key to what we do. We employ several tactics to organize our thinking to create the research, analysis and insight to develop innovative and even transformative solutions aligned with clear goals for our clients.

Anything is possible with our team of very talented people. Relish has both extensive creative and technology development experience – engaging an exceptional group of writers, designers, photographers, developers and illustrators to elevate our projects.

In addition to our talented team, we also believe that when a business does good, it’s good for business. We function on good karma – always giving back. In 2017, we became a Certified B Corporation as a reflection of our founding principles and to help us drive those same principles forward in everything we do. As a B Corporation, Relish meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, legally expanding our corporate responsibilities to include consideration of stakeholder interests. What does that mean? It means that it matters what we do and who we do it for.

A growing company will always face challenges, whether it be organizing team infrastructure, responding to competition, deciding when to abandon a strategy or trying to be everything to everyone rather than homing in on our inherent expertise. We take these challenges in stride and modify our methods as we move forward.

We’re doing good work! A huge part of what we do is expanding our business and skills to help create a positive impact in the community. Knowing that we are doing good is a great motivator. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life in our local community. We encourage community connections through paid staff volunteerism and mentorship programs. We also support urban agriculture and other local initiatives. As well as sponsoring community events, nonprofits and charitable activities annually, Relish gives back 1% of its annual net revenue to a charity of choice.

We approach finding new team members through traditional channels such as online job postings and word-of-mouth, but we’ve also utilized the benefits of work placements through Red River College and the University of Manitoba.

We recently teamed up with Manitoba Start, an organization that connects business to the highly skilled and job-ready newcomers who move to our province. Their WorkStart program is a unique work program that taps the skills of newcomer professionals. We had such a positive experience with our participant that we ended up hiring her full-time.

We look for people who think differently – problem solvers, people with different backgrounds and people who care about the world around them – someone who shares our values as a B-Corp.

Our team consists of people with different backgrounds, life stages, experience levels and interests – all coming together for a greater purpose. We use our knowledge to help one another grow both professionally and personally. Impact. Efficiency. Transparency. These characteristics make us who we are – one of just over 2,100 Certified B Corporations from over 130 industries and nearly 50 countries around the world. We are continually looking for ways to improve and assess our practices and policies annually as they relate to our workers, environment, our customers, community and governance.

Businesses are starting to understand the importance of their corporate responsibility. They are using their business for good and making an impact on the community around them. Companies are recognizing that when businesses do good, it’s good for business.

We must also consider advancements in AI. Technology is rapidly advancing, and our tools will think for us in many ways. It’s important to ensure that creativity, curation and thought always persevere.

Find a mentor, someone who has been where you are and can help you navigate your way through the industry. Be a thinker. It’s essential to take time to stop and think, so you’re not substituting conventional wisdom for true thinking. Tech never stops growing and changing and neither should you. If you want to stay on top of your game and ahead of the competition, never stop learning. Change isn’t something to be afraid of, embrace it!

Our company has grown into what it is today by having leadership that strives to see growth and success and a talented team that gives every project one hundred percent.

New Media Manitoba has provided our team with training that has been ahead of the trend and essential to our business. They have attracted top-notch industry talent to Winnipeg which has been beneficial for our team at Relish.
