Blender 3D Summer Camp for Indigenous Youth

New Media Manitoba presents this free camp for indigenous youth aged 14-18, led by local interdisciplinary artist Casey Koyczan.

It’s important to preserve who we are, where we come from, and make our voices heard.

Art is always evolving, as are the tools and techniques that we have at our disposal are ever-changing. However, the essential need we all have as human beings to tell our stories and express ourselves remains constant.

This course will encourage students of any skill level to gain experience with digital art tools. They will employ techniques such as 3D Modeling and Animation using Blender to craft a piece of their own to express who they are. By the end of this camp students will gain beginner to intermediate skills in Storytelling, 3D Modeling / Animation / Rendering, Blender, and Project Management

Learning Outcomes

  • Getting familiar with Blender as a digital art tool
  • 3D Art Pipeline using Blender
  • Creating scenes and rendering digital art pieces in Blender

Instructor Bio

Casey Koyczan is a Dene interdisciplinary artist from Yellowknife, NT, that uses various mediums to communicate how culture and technology can grow together in order for us to develop a better understanding of who we are, where we come from, and what we will be. He creates with whatever tools necessary to bring an idea to fruition, and specializes in sculpture, installation, 3D/VR/AR/360, video, and audio works such as music, soundscapes and film scores.

He is an international artist that has participated in many residencies, exhibits, festivals and collaborations in parts of the world such as Finland, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, The Netherlands, The USA, and the UK. He is also a musician, producer, filmmaker, actor/narrator, and advocate for future generations of artists and musicians.

He has a Multimedia Production diploma from Lethbridge College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Thompson Rivers University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba.
