Peg Jam 2023 – Winnipeg’s #1 Video Game Development Hackaton has returned with an incredible line-up of speakers, and both virtual and in-person options for participants.

EVENT UPDATE

New Media Manitoba has been overwhelmed by the interest surrounding PegJam 2023. Industry professionals, students and hobbyists have all been signing up for the chance to jam in person. As a result, we are excited to announce that we are at 100% capacity for both the in-person jam and for Thursday’s speaker’s night! 

Over 100 participants are set to descend into Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District for an entire weekend of game development. If you missed out, we are sorry, but there are two options. Feel free to email us to get put on the waiting list, or you can participate virtually on Discord.

Chris Anderson got his start in video games as a Community Manager and Development Tester and now runs Talentry Gaming Solutions, a gaming recruitment firm based in Winnipeg. Talentry partners with studios looking for unique, experienced, and diverse talent across North America. Chris will be speaking on finding career opportunities in the industry.

Rebecca Harrison needs no introduction to the local game development scene. She has reached legendary status for her work, love of game jams, and her positive energy. Rebecca is the founder of Flightyfelon games. She and her talented team are currently working on FREERIDE, an Action-RPG that’s (not-so) secretly a Personality Test. Rebecca will be sharing her thoughts on “Crunch.”

Tamara Abas is leading New Media Manitoba’s instructional efforts for our latest initiative StudioLab xR. As Canada’s only female Unreal Authorized Instructor, she lives and breathes all things Unreal Engine. Beyond all the technical prowess, she is a passionate instructor with an unparalleled commitment to sharing her knowledge. Tamara will be speaking on the topic of Technical Art.

Unity Technologies believes that creativity can change the world. Their technology empowers creators of all kinds to create games and experiences to educate and entertain. We are fortunate to have Thomas Winkley and Joy Horvath from Unity braving the winter cold to join us at PegJam. They will speak on best practices for having a healthy and happy game jam.

But wait, that’s not all! In addition to these great speakers, we also have a few new surprises up our sleeves.

Our friends at MOSMA will join the Jam to provide all sorts of incredible audio options for participants. A recording station for voice-over and foley sessions will be set up, as well as workstations running Abelton with a full Effects Libraries.

In addition to her speaking session, Tamara Abas will host a short workshop on using Rokoko Video, a free browser-based AI motion capture tool. Tamara will walk you through creating mocap data inside Rokoko Video, cleaning data in Rokoko Studio, and finally, exporting your skeleton directly into Unreal Engine or Unity.
